Thoughout the day, I’ll be sharing with you the action on the mat. Mat 1 is closest to the press table so a majority of the matches will be from this mat, but I’ll try my best to give you updates from all the mats. I will also be blogging live play-by-play action of the finals matside. Please REFRESH OFTEN!
Semi-Finals
Marc Tyson (Monroe) just exchanged throws with Maxmillian Issaka (Woodbridge) and was able to score a takedown on the third throw, 2-0. Issaka just got poked in the eye and got a point for the technical violation, Tyson then choose neutral making the score 2-2. Tyson took down Issaka to his back to end the period, 6-2. Issaka chooses neutral. These two are big strong guys looking to out-throw each other and it’s fun to watch. Tyson just speared Issaka straight to his back for the pin! Tyson will wrestle Joel Perez (Perth Amboy) in the finals.

Nick Orak (Old Bridge) just pinned Bobby Burd (Voorhees) in 38 seconds! Defending state champion Andrew Campolattano (Bound Brook) is winning 2-0 over Cameron Radinovic (Ridge). Campolattano picked up a couple of back points to end the first period, 4-0 Campolattano chooses defense to start the second. Campolattano just reversed Radinovic with a cradle and the pin!

Brendan Vercammen (South Brunswick) is now wrestling Brian Stapleton (Franklin) while Steve Zafrani (Old Bridge) just gave up a takedown before the buzzer to Mike Hafke (Voorhees). Hafke just scored another takedown, 4-0, as Vercammen broke a scoreless tie with an escape, 1-0. Hafke is now winning 6-0 as Vercammen just pinned Stapleton with an armbar! He will wrestle Hafke who just won 6-0.

Jerrry Somma (Hunterdon Central) is up 1-0 against Travis Gerslacker (Hopewell Valley). Jared Leon (Hillsborough) is winning 4-3 against John McArdle (Franklin). Leon escapes, 5-3. McArdle is fighting like mad to get that final takedown. McArdle picks up a stalling point, but it’s not enough as Leon wins 5-4 and will face Somma in the finals who won by pin.
171: Mike Hafke (Voorhees) m.d. Brendan Vercammen (South Brunswick), 8-0.

Finals

189: Andrew Campolattano (Bound Brook) p. Nick Orak (Old Bridge), 1:16.

Campolattano scores a quick takedown, two different set of backs, and pins Orak in 1:16.

171: Mike Hafke (Voorhees) m.d. Brendan Vercammen (South Brunswick), 10-0.

Hafke has a deep single and scores a takedown with 30 seconds left, 2-0. Hafke rides out Vercammen for the rest of the period. Second period. Vercammen defers, Hafke chooses defense. Hafke hits a reversal off a cradle counter, 4-0. Vercammen attempts a series of granby rolls but is unable to reverse Hafke before the end of the period. Vercammen chooses defense to start the third. Hafke picks up a couple of backs from a spladle style tilt, 8-0. Hafke scores a couple of more backs before the buzzer with a jacobson, 10-0.

160: Jerry Somma (Hunterdon Central) d. Jared Leon (Hillsborough), 3-1.

Somma scores from a front headlock and spinning behind, 2-0. Second period. Somma chooses defense. Somma escapes, 3-0. Third period. Leon chooses defense and escapes quickly, 3-1. There is a lot of dancing and the match ends, 3-1.
