NJ wrestling state tournament: Weighing in on 171lbs wrestlers

Winning a state championship would be a great cap to the career of Ryan Callahan of Wallkill Valley. In the Region 1 final on Monday in his home gym, Callahan not only won his third region championship but he became the all-time winning-est wrestler in the proud history of Sussex County.
He enters Atlantic City with 150 career victories and as a heavy favorite to win the state title. He fell in the 2009 state final at this 171-pound class to two-time champion Brandan Ard of Watchung Hills by a 4-3 score. Ard is off to college and wresting at Wisconsin and Callahan is ready to take over this weight class.Callahan, the No. 1 seed up top, could tangle with a tough semifinal opponent in Zach Agostino of Egg Harbor, the No. 2 seed in this half.
Omar Akel of Long Branch, the No. 1 seed in the bottom who placed sixth in the state at 171 a year ago, second-seeded Mike Khoury of St.Joseph in Montvale, third-seeded Jamie Westwood of Queen of Peace, fourth-seeded Canaan Bethea of Ttrenton and Mike Hafke of Voorhees, the No. 5 seed, all have potential to reach the final opposite Callahan.
