South Plainfield appears well on its way to its 17th GMC Tournament, advancing eight wrestlers in the championship round.

It only took six matches into Day 2 of the GMCT to have a major upset. South River’s Mike Palambo scored a 14-2 major decision over second-seeded Mike Buttitta of J.F. Kennedy in a 112-pound quarterfinal bout.

Greg Tufaro is in his 20th year as a sports writer at the Home News Tribune, where he has covered recreational, collegiate, scholastic and professional sports. He is a graduate of Rutgers University. Greg lives in Central Jersey with his wife Cyndi and their 5-year-old daughter Marisa.

Harry Frezza is a proud 1974 graduate of Bound Brook High School. He also graduated from Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. He's is in his 30th season of working at the Courier News. Harry lives in Annandale with son Thomas. His daughters Nicole and Jamie are students at Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, Pa. (Go Blue Eagles).

Luca Rispoli
Luca Rispoli is a 2000 graduate of Old Bridge High School and Ramapo College. He is a wrestling referee, a baseball umpire, and a soccer referee. Aside from wrestling in his scholastic days, Luca has helped run numerous wrestling tournaments over the years. Luca has provided live play-by-play coverage of the Greater Middlesex Conference and Region 5 tournaments for On The Mat. He will provide more live play-by-play from the NJSIAA Tournament in Atlantic City.

Ron Mazzola
Ron Mazzola is a graduate of Madison Central High School, now Old Bridge, and never wrestled in high school. He caught the wrestling "bug" in the early 1990s and has been part of the Old Bridge, GMC and N.J. wrestling community ever since. Ron can be found working the head table and many major tournaments during the winter wrestling season.
