Welcome wrestling fans to the 2009-2010 GMCT FINALS!!!
We have a spectacular lineup for you featuring some of the most talented wrestlers in the GMC today. We will begin wrestling at the 125 pound weight class. We have eight returning finalists, six unbeaten wrestlers, two of which are wrestling each other, four freshman, three defending champions, one of which is seeking his fourth GMCT title, and a rematch of last year’s 112 final between two 100 match winners as our final bout of the evening.
125: Ray De La Nuez (Edison) vs. Mike Pysniak (Bishop Ahr)
THIS GYM IS PACKED! We have what feels like over a thousand people! Now wrestling is Ray De La Nuez from Edison and Mike Pysniak from Bishop Ahr. De La Nuez scores the first takedown, 2-0. As the wrestlers work out of bounds, De La Nuez chooses neutral to give Pysniak his first point, 2-1. Both of these wrestlers know each other well from from the Region 5 and District 19 finals last year.
De La Nuez defers his choice to Pysniak; Pysniak chooses defense. Pysniak quickly excapes to make the score 2-2. We had a stop for blood time and injury time already in this second period, still 2-2. Both wrestlers are excellent at fighting off takedowns, working wizzers, blocking legs, and really being aware of the positions they are in. Pysniak takes his second injury timeout in between periods as De La Nuez chooses defense. There is a wild scramble on the mat, but De La Nuez manages to escape, 3-2. Pysniak missed a loose head and arm while De La Nuez ends up on top with the takedown, 5-2 with 43 seconds remaining. We are stopped for blood time. Pysniak needs to escape and take De La Nuez down to tie it at five. But De La Nuez has done a great job fighting off his shots. De La Nuez choose neutral giving Pysniak another point, 5-3. Pysniak goes for another wild throw that ends up with De La Nuez on top of him and getting back points! The match ends 10-3.
130: Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield) vs. John Gozzolino (Carteret)
We are coming to you from the begining of the third period with the score 6-5 in favor of DelVecchio. Gozzolino chooses defense. DelVecchio brings Gozzolino to his back with a tilt for two backs, 8-5. DelVecchio hits a cradle for three more backs, 11-5. DelVecchio has Gozzolino on his back again, but this time he’s not getting out; PINNED, 5:47!

And thats how the match ends, 5-2. Nick Heilmann is now a 4x GMCT champion!
140: Corey Stasenko (South Plainfield) vs. Dave Powell (Piscataway)
Powell scores the first takedown, 2-0. Stasenko narrowly missed a reversal, but settles for an escape, 2-1. Stasenko is a freshman while Powell won his one 100th match earlier in the day, but these two look evenly matched as the first period comes to an end. Powell starts the second on defense an escapes, 3-1. Stasenko chooses defense to start the third. Stasenko scores a quick escape and knocks Powell off the mat going for the takedown, 3-2! Stasenko is hit for locking hands, 6-5. Time is running out! Powell is looking for a reversal late! The crowd is going nuts looking for two! The buzzer goes off and the referee has not awarded points. Piscataway is protesting and we aren’t sure of the result. As Powell was seeking the reversal, for the situation he was in, he needed to lock his hands for a cradle or hook the leg. Powell did neither, Stasenko held on to the leg, and the match ends, 6-5. Freshman Corey Stasenko wins!
145: Ryan Sacco (South Plainfield) vs. Jaime Bond (Old Bridge)
Sacco took down Bond and pinned him, 1:35!
152: David Saley (Monroe) vs. Garrett Cuddey (Spotswood)
Saley takes down Cuddey to score the first points of the match, 2-0. Cuddey escapes, 2-1. Saley takes down Cuddey again, 4-1. Saley chooses defense to start the second. Saley scores a reversal, 6-1. Cuddey escapes and Saley takes him down again, 8-2. We start the third period in neutral and Saley takes down Cuddey, 10-2. There is a trend developing as Saley takes down Cuddey and Cuddey escapes. The match ends 18-7.
160: Tevin Shaw (Piscataway) vs. Frank Bozzomo (Middlesex)
Both of these wrestlers are undefeated. Shaw seems to be the aggressor, but Bozzomo is wrestling tough. Shaw had a real close takedown at the edge of the mat, but couldn’t hold Bozzomo. The period ends, 0-0, and Shaw chooses defense for the start of the second. Shaw escapes, while earning Bozzomo a stalling call, 1-0. Shaw scores a takedown, 3-0. We have 16 seconds remaining in the second as we are stopped for blood time. Bozzomo goes for a hard switch but Shaw bails out giving Bozzomo the escape, 3-1. Bozzomo starts the period on defense and quickly earns himself a caution. Bozzomo stands up and escapes, 3-2. Shaw just got hit for stalling. Match over, Shaw, 3-2.
171: Steve Zafrani (Old Bridge) vs. Brendan Vercammen (South Brunswick)
This is Zafrani and Vercammen’s second match this season with Zafrani taking the first match (and certainly not the last), 3-1. One minute has passes and both wrestlers are still dancing. Vercamenn wins, 3-2.

The entire first period was spent with these two dancing on their feet. Tyson choose defense for the second and hit a reversal, 2-0. Yocum escapes, 2-1. Yocum starts the third on defense. Tyson is just hit with a locking hands call, 2-2. Tyson selects neutral, 3-2 Yocum on top. Oh no! Tyson bumps Yocum whill out of bounds and then pushes him and get hit with an unsportsmanlike, 4-2 Yocum. Tyson hits a takedown with 40 seconds left and selects neutral, 5-4 Yocum and this gym is getting loud! 11 seconds left and thats how the match is going to end. Tyson gave up two penalty points in this one. Maybe the locking hands was a mistake, but sportsmanship should never be an issue.
285: Christian Bollin (Middlesex) vs. Ryan Moskwa (Perth Amboy)
I love heavyweight matches. Two giants on the mat and anything can happen. Except in this first period where nothing happened. Bollin chooses defense. Big mistake! Moskwa rolls Bollin to his back and seals the match, 2:33!
103: Luis Nunez (Perth Amboy) vs. Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield)
No points have been score in the first period, but these two are fast and can really move! Ashnault score the first takedown, 2-0. Nunez chooses neutral to start the second. There was a premature takedown called, but the referee rightfully retracted it. The wrestlers are still on there feet with a minute left in the second. Ashnault ultimately does score a takedown, 4-0. Ashnault chooses defense and quickly picks up a caution. Ashnault escapes and picks up another takedown, 7-0. Ashnault picks up an extra point and ends the match picking up an additional three back points, 11-0. Freshman Anthony Ashnault remains undefeated and wins his first GMCT title.
